Startup problem. ESC and motors are getting very hot and start smoking.

I build my own quadcopter and controller.
I use the desing of Joop Brokking named: YMFC-32-auto_Flight_Controler_version-2b
When the motors and the ESC's are disconnected I can do all the tests.
When I connect the motors and EMC's and I do the startup procedure of 1 motor this works.

Now the problem.
After switching on the flight controller the motors begin to move random movements and making beeping sounds.
The ESC's are getting very hot and also the motors. After 20 seconds one of the motors start smoking.
I can do the startup procedure of one of the motors and this goes well.
How can I overcome the time between switch-on and startup the motors before they got fire.
Or is there something wrong in my setup?
