SMA vs. RP SMA what's missing besides the center pin?

I got two reverse polarized SMA antennas by mistake. I needed them non-reversed. But the "reverse" basically means the host device has a tiny hole in the center of the connector, AND the antenna has the same hole.
So if I fabricated a pin the right diameter, long enough to bridge the holes, why wouldn't that work? It would have to be better than tossing two antennas.

If you have a good electronics story nearby (or can wait for shipping), I'm pretty sure you can get a male to male SMA adapter that bridges the two female connectors. If you fabricate something, I'd assume that will work too since it's really just coax - but I don't know if there would be any guarantees. And also, I'm no expert, but I figure you'd want to ensure you use the same material for the pin.
