SG906 Pro controller distance maxes at 999m

Anyone got an answer to a strange thing, Ive modified my controller so I can get a greater range than I had (used to be 600m), now I can get greater than 1km, my distance on the controller counts up to 999m then stops there, my fpv maximum is about 600m then i lose that but my quad keeps going. I know this because I can still change the height it flys at and my friend followed my quad with his dji mini 2 and we could see me still moving however my battery starts to go low very quickly now so at about 1.3km I do a return to home. Eventually when it gets to 999m when returning it starts conting down but I cant seem to get the controller display to go greater than 999m, Ive seen on youtube the controller display going higher, appreciate any help as Im going to improve the antenna on the drone itself to get an even greater range, cheers for any help :)

seems to only show an LCD display with 3 character spots reserved for the distance so a max of 999 would make sense unless they roll it over to 1.0 or something but not all character displays have the decimal lcd section in there I don't think and might just be limitation of the software used to drive it. Since it says the vid link can go 800m they probably assume you are out of flying distance before the 999 limit anyhow, honestly 800m for vid link and 1200m for control link is very impressive for anything using 2.4GHz, usually if going longer range need to go lower frequency (typically corresponding to lower bandwidth due to details of having an antenna tuned around the target frequency/bands).
 
Betaflight OSD or iNav or other firmwares for quadcopter flight controllers that support GPS input can also show longer distances for sure so maybe just mixed up with one of those platforms/vids? If think not maybe dig up that vid and share it here can take a look.

Hi, the controller/software is what came with the drone, I mounted an external antenna on the controller to get the extra range and will be adding a PCB antenna to the drone re 2.4g and 5g to give even more distance. Already Ive disassembled the gimble/camera to improve its performance. I know I could buy better if I had enough money but I've become attached to this one lol, I bought it early last year( SG906 Beast Pro controller very different to yours). Very windy for the next 2 to 3 days, so when I can will take a few photos and attached here, cheers :)
