So I downloaded the update for Real Flight and it has quadcopter trials in it. The quad you fly in the trials looks like a DJI Phantom, and WOW, is that thing a dog in the game! It's so hard to control. It seems to have an almost insurmountable inertia once it starts moving, it tips over at the drop of a hat, and it seems so under powered you REALLY have to jam the stick to recover from any drift. I flew it right after I had put two batteries through my out of game Hubsan X4 doing maneuvers between chair legs and landing on sofa arms and shelves in my living room, and flying that DJI through a 6ft tall gate with any grace in the game is far more challenging. If that is how those things handle I am that much more thrilled I decided to buy the Turbo Ace instead. I hope for all of the Phantom owner's sakes that it is just some aspect of the simulator not emulating the phantom's flight characteristics very well. I couldn't get it into FPV or it might have been a little easier. Maybe if you set it to FPV before opening the trials it would stay in that mode? I think part of the difficulty is from the view of a 3d world on a 2D screen and having no perspective to accurately gauge distance.
I'm curious what phantom owners think of the game phantom. Please comment. After spending what I did on the quad I just bought, I'm thinking of buying a DJI or QX350 just to tool around with when I don't feel like risking my really nice one, and if they fly like this, I will have to consider alternatives.
