RE : Nozzle choice

Questions :

1. Why do we need different nozzles?
2. When do we need to change nozzle ? When using different filaments?
3. For a Monoprice Seleect Mini V2 printer, do I need to be concerned about using different nozzles on different filaments?

Please don't be too technical. I won't be able to understand it.
A generalized explanation will suffice. Thank you.

If you are just changing between PLA/ABS/PETG then can use the same nozzle just need to get it hot enough to purge whatever the previous filament was. Harder nozzle metals will help with longevity of the nozzle, the filament running through brass wears it down over time and enlarges the hole so you get more dripping and less clean lines I replace it probably every few months. There are also larger diameter nozzles (standard is 0.4mm hole size) I just picked up a 0.6mm nozzle because then can do layers larger than .2mm layer lines (can go to .3mm safely) and print faster but with lower quality (can go other way too).

Tougher filaments like nylon or things with extra particles/additives for glow in the dark or carbon additives etc. will make the filament wear more quickly on the nozzle. Just make sure the thread size and size of the nozzle is correct for your hot end/heat block.

If I stick to PLA type filaments, i.e. Hatchbox PLA 1.75mm, the nozzle should be good for a long time. Yes?

Yah typically don't need to replace it often the part is cheap but bit of a pain to take off since easier to do hot when things are expanded and melty but a bit dangerous to do that way too like I said every few months I'll do it along with cleaning rods and other maintenance depends how much it's used though really.
