QUADCOPTER with ducted fans

Short answer is yes:

I don't know much about ducted fan motors, so I won't give any detailed advice, but if you google search "EDF quadcopter", there seems to be a lot of people experimenting with them. Although, most advice I see says to go with the traditional quadcopter power system / motors & props. I was doing some research and this guy seems to be knowledgeable and pretty realistic about the subject:

That's probably a better idea. I think the ones with ducted fans look very cool though. And I know that some some flying designs benefit from the ducted fan setup, but I guess it's just not that great for quads. Plus flight control boards will all be geared toward the traditional motor/prop types.

I think the Russian guy who put a machine gun on a multi-rotor used ducted fans. Seems like a control nightmare to me! And if you crash one, all that gimbal mechanics will die like a dog! No survival skills in all that gearing.

Even if you don't gimbal them, it seems no one is getting long flight times out of EDFs.
