Just thought I would say hello. I have just bought my first Quad (well It's really my second) yes my first drone was a Holystone HS175D but I sent it back after it decided to do it's own thing, this ended with me having to pull the battery out as it stopped responding to the controller.

So I have bought a Beast SG906 Pro (same price as the Holystone) So this is a practice quad because I have the reflexes of a snail.

Yes not to good at flying. I was on holiday (camping) with my son and he had a quad he had built, It had been flying very well So I asked him if I could have ago with it and yes I smashed it up ( propellers) and the poor lad didn't have any spare. I smash it from a distance off around a foot off the ground as I said I have the reflexes of a snail.

So I have bought a quad to try and fly again it's got a one button take off and land and flight stable technology, I'm hoping this is going to help me fly a drone.

I do have some bits to make a quad somewhere around the house, I will have to find them I have a carbon fiber 450-500 frame, motors and bits, I even have a controller somewhere in the house I wanted to build one to fly with my son (about 6 years ago).

I do understand I have to get ID and flight License as my drone (SG906) is over 250g in fact it's 556g

Anyway I'm 56 years young and would like to learn how to fly a quad and take video's when we go caravanning around the UK.
I have even found a club that meets about 20 miles from me on a Sunday afternoon in a pub grounds
 
Your SG906 Pro is a GPS drone.
GPS will help the drone maintaining altitude and it will stick in mid air like glue if you don't touch the controller sticks. Perfect for "newbie" learning to fly without worrying about drone losing altitude and dropping from the sky.
However, your drone is built with brushless motors. They are powerful. Be careful pushing the RIGHT stick. It can fly real fast and you may lose control even GPS is on.
The drone should have 2 or 3 speed settings. Start with the lowest first. " Learn to walk before run".

If you are flying on an open field such as the size of a football (soccer) field, you can fly higher and further than that. The GPS will stable the drone.
It is not the altitude and distance in question, it is the Speed that makes the difference.
Of course, strength of wind speed will decide if it is the right condition to fly a drone.

Thanks David good advice I will take it as slow as I can going to fly it tomorrow if weather permits

@davidhk129 can I build the GPS and flight stabilization into a home build Quad?

My understanding and exposure is strictly on "toy drones".
I have absolutely no knowledge on building a hobby drone. That said, I do know there are some hobby drones equipped with GPS. In fact I just saw a few hours ago from a web site selling DIY drone build kit with GPS.

Yah stabilization mode is standard for all flight control boards that run betaflight, most of them also have extra serial inputs/outputs or other device to device communication protocol support including a few varieties of gps (bn 880 for example gps module). That said betaflight only supports GPS for showing GPS speed or a return to home arrow and returning to that home waypoint for recovery if the control signal is lost and the quad "fail-safes". Lots of flight control boards can be flashed with inav as well that provides more in the way of waypoint flying but most the home built ones I think people end up getting into manual/acro flight and/or racing, if want nice camera in the sky with good GPS control dji offers lots of options (and lots of clones out there)
