New Build Advice

So I am building a new quad and have been working on it for quite some time. Slowly as my limited budget will allow. Here is what I have now, as well as what is on order.

Frame: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HJ-MWC-X-Mo...Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5666966657

Motor/Props: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMAX-4-x-Mo...Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2592ce5773

Flight Control: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking...i_PRO_Flight_Controller_w_MTK_GPS_Module.html

ESC: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking...5A_Brushless_Quadcopter_ESC_2_4S_3A_SBEC.html

Radio: 6 channel tx/rx

Misc:

Now everything I have shows it needs a 3s battery. Which one should I get? The intention is to be a self trainer and eventually trying to FPV with it.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You'll also need a charger. I like the Turnigy AccuCell 6, but there are plenty to choose from. HobbyKing has a lipo finder applet on the right side of their main page. A 450mm quad works well with anything between 2,200 to 3,000mah. You'll wind up buying more than one battery, and 3S LIPOs work well for powering ground stations later, so you won't dump them even if you move to more cells later on.

If there is a warehouse near you, you may try to get a battery from there. Be mindful of the battery connector you're prepared for with your power distribution scheme. The lipo finder will let you select a battery including dimensions as criteria. I don't know what the dimensions of the bottom plate of your frame are.

Flamewheel style frames often have integrated power distribution. Your QBrain only needs one power connection, but you still need to connect the battery to it somehow, and I cannot tell if the leads of the QBrain are terminated in any way -- I'd guess they are not. Your battery is probably going to have 4mm bullet connections.

Have you decided on a radio & receiver? Turnigy 9x is a common budget choice. I switched to a Taranis. It's more money but worth it. Of course, worth it doesn't count if it's out of your budget.

I see you're getting a GPS module, and a stand, but no enclosure. Go ahead and buy the kit recommended underneath the controller. Otherwise, you can slip shrink tubing over it and use double-sided tape to hold it on the pedestal.

It's a good idea to get a 5v BEC and have it and a 12v power whip wired in right up front, then you'll be ready to add FPV or a video camera without ripping your quad apart to add power taps later.
