Multiwii v 2.5 connection issues and more besides.

Hello there all,
Firstly, this is my first big build in oh, maybe 20 years, and much has changed hehe. So i'm suffering a rude awakening of sorts, but still enjoying the challenge too.
I have a qav250 with an FS T6 tx and as you guessed, a multiwii v2.5 fcb. Now i can compile the sketch to be flashed to the fcb but it wont upload, saying that there is a problem connecting to the board. I suspect that the board is not connecting correctly (when i plug it in via the ftdi the board blue light flashes very fast, then just fast, the goes out altogether leaving a solid green light on, unless i tilt the board, then the blue light flashes again,). I am running widows 8 and have no idea how to check.
And breath....... finally, i also downloaded the multiwii interface versions 2.2 then 2.3 and also the latest version too, just to make sure i wasn't screwing up, I unzipped it but it wont open, saying "windows cannot find 'javaw.exe'.make sure you've typed the name correctly, then try again." Not very helpful really.
Any help on these problems would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance

ps. i'm not terribly computer savvy so keep it simple for the stupid, last helis i flew had mechanical gyros and Mhz controllers .

Well, one thing I've discovered, is that the multiwii software does not work with w8 but does with vista. So that's 20% fixed. Now still trying to get the board to speak with the computer looks like driver issues but the arduino site is not very helpful. Giving me info that does not match with what I'm seeing. Any help still appreciated.

Many thanks.

Nope, multiwii is crap, can't fly it, flips over for no reason, can't get any help. I'll get a different board and go it alone.
Thanks for all your useful advice.
