I just want to put an idea out there and get some feedback.
If I have a kite with two control strings I can make it do loops, clockwise and anticlockwise. Make it go left, and right. If the wind is strong enough I can allow it to go away by unwinding the control strings. If I pull back, winding up the control strings, it will come toward me. But always in control.
Is this possible with a two motor copter? and the right electrics?
 
What I have in mind, is two motor/rotors seperated by a frame of some sort. Perhaps 500mm or so apart. Coming off each end of the frame is a control line, probably made of fishing line or similar. These control lines could be attached to the frame using small load cells which provide the control voltages to the motors via standard ESC units. Electrically it could be very simple with a dual opamp or similar to interface the load cells to the ESC, but then again there could be a need for something more sophisticated.

Horizontal stability in one plane would be controlled by the flyer, using the control lines. In fact this is the entire point of this design. It is a tethered copter but can be steered using the control lines.

But I am not sure how to control the stability in the forward/backward plane. Kites use a triangular bridle connection to keep the wings at a suitable angle to the wind, but a copter creates its own lift, so is different. But then again the triangular bridle idea could also work here if the frame had a downward pointing arm to attach the bottom legs of the bridle to.

Launching and retrieving is another issue. Maybe it is impossible, but worth a thought or two in my opinion.

Any comments or idea appreciated. (please don't tell me that I am an idiot, i already know that!!)
