LiPo charging

I fired up my Turnigy AccuCell 6 today, read the manual and watched a few videos on it. One thing doesn't make sense to me.

Every source stresses that you must never leave a LiPo battery unattended while charging, due to the risk of fire or explosion. Ok, if the battery is going to go off like a bomb, don't I want to be pretty much anyplace else? Or does the battery do something so entertaining right before it blows that it's worth risking my life to catch it?

What warning signs am I supposed to be looking for as I hover close to my energy grenade?

Haha - it doesn't explode like a bomb, but it might be dangerous. First thing, you should always store and charge in lipo charging bag :

Second, check this out:

It's more of a fire than an explosion. With the charging bags or charging boxes, it will essentially contain the fire, but there will be a lot of smoke, so you should avoid charging in the house if possible. Lipo's are supposedly pretty unstable, especially if not cared for properly or if you discharge them too much or at too high of a rate, etc. I charged and stored my batteries without bags and unattended when I first started, and then when I realized how common lipo fires are, I felt pretty lucky. Apparently, a lot of people have burned down their houses by leaving lipos charging unattended. Personally, I don't live somewhere that has a garage, but if I did, I'd be comfortable charging the lipo unattended if it was in a charging bag in the middle of the concrete floor with nothing flamable within 5-10 feet. As it stands now, I charge and store them in a lipo-safe bag and I'm nearby when they're charging.
