KK v2.1 Upgrade - advice?

Hi... I am currently fine tuning my first quad, which is controlled by a trusty old kk v2.1 board.

However, I am already considering my next step control wise, as I want to use the kk board for another upcoming project and install something on the quad, which can incorporate a GPS in future. I have been advised by a local expert, that the Naza systems are the best.... However, these can cost more than my entire quad!

Any recomendations, bearing in mind, I have NO programing experience other than configuring my kk baord to X, via i structions provided on a youtube video... I have a KK programming cable,, altho I think this is only the kk v2.1 and perhaps 3.0 board

HI mate what mm said was right naza is the best , you can get a bit cheaper on line from china where they are made, the kk2.1 is the new board kk2.0 was the old one ( not telling you off ) the multiwii is ment to be a good board , it all started with the games console and that works great hobby king is the cheapest place to buy, the only down fall is you need a pc to set it up but you do with all of them but for the kk with lcd , thats the kk2.0/kk2.1 biggest selling point , there is also an autopilot on hk too that has GPS and return home mode with fail safe .
Just a word of warning please dont use GPS in doors the signal is not good and can give you safety issue, lots of GPS systems have a return home mode and fail safe and if it goes into fail safe it will try and go home ( its last GPS point) a run away 450 quad can do lots of damage outside more in the living room

Hmm... There are 2 boards named " KK2.1".... One is the KK2.1 which like the KK2.0 has an LCD display. The other is an earlier design, called the KK v2.1, which is the one I have, and has no LCD or switches, just 3 pots and a USB flash interface... I know, I was confused for a while too. It has no interface for a GPS.

I can't even fly my copter in my yard right now, let alone in the living room... lol so, I don't think I'll be trying my GPS indoors... my car's GPS doesn't work in the house so I would doubt any of these would either.

When I first began looking into building a quad, something (which I can't quite remember) put me off about the programming, however, if it is the requirement of a USB - 6pin cable... then I'm already sorted...?

Hi mate most boards are the 6 pin , kk2.1 the new one and the old kk2.0 is so easy to set up shame it cant do GPS , the other was just for safety as i know it happens , the 6 pin on the new kk2.1/0 will flash new firmware , if you can save up for the naza its your best one to get , the wii is good but not as good , if your going to be running at distance i would go for the better fcb

I reckon I'll be getting hold of one of these... Once I've learned to fly this one I'm building, assuming it's still alive, the old KK will go in my gimble project, and this will be an inexpensive upgrade

If I find that I need a superior controller, I'll probably save for that, when building another , probably larger, machine.

Can anyone explain why the Naza is so much better and more expensive? Is it simply range? Or is there something else to make me save harder?

Its the old story mate if you want good GPS and reliable system it costs more, the fail safe is good , return home is spot on , look on you tube for reviews and flight tests , i saw one there they set up the naza system on an cross on the floor , then flown quad out a long way then turned off transmitter , this made the naza go into fail safe mode it then lifted to 100 feet ( you set height in set up ) and came back till it was over head it hovered for 4 seconds , then if slowly came down till it had landed it was only out by 5 inches , its that good , this is what you pay for , there are other coming along that will be as good , so the price will have to come down or it will be made even better , but they dont go wrong so they sell well , I do feel they are worth the money i never got one. At this time i fly acro quads so its all line of sight, but when i start FPV again i will be saving for the naza with all the works and a TBS discovery frame or a hover thing FLIP FPV frame
