how to get the longest range possible

hello, im very new to flying quads and eventually want to get into the world of fpv. im currently looking for my first txrx setup and want to know exactly what to look for in terms of the longest range possible. its not that i need to do it now, i just want something i can grow into and take further than i can see at some point in my flying career. is it the antennas? is it the 2.4ghz? what would be a good quality txrx at a reasonable price? no junk but cheap!

Hi mate transmitters are personal taste really i use Spektrum i have a dx6i that i started with, but as i fly scale helis as well as quads i now have a DX9 , go to a model shop and ask to see there transmitters once you pick one up your know if its right for you , as for range most 2.4g will go 2km and then for really long range we use a base station etc , so spektrum , futuba, fresky,
