How to get my drone to fly for 3 to 5 hours??

I have seen hydrogen fuel cells power drones for 3 to 5 hours but most fuel cells on the market that i have seen are really overpriced!

I have also heard of goodenoughs new glass electrolyte battery coming out in a few years its suppose to have incredible specs.

Hybrid electric gas / battery powered drones also get great flight times down side is they are really loud and cause a lot of vibrations

When this stuff becomes mainstream its going to change the drone industry!

Are there any other forms of powering a drone similar to these?

Really need something with 3 to 5 times the effeciency of li-pos!

3-5hrs, no chance with what's on today's market. Hydrogen isn't drones.
This is a hobby grade site, not darpa. :p
See you in the future, or maybe ask Elon musk.

3-5 hrs?? No way with this technology, maybe in 5-10 years that will be possible. Army probably have that technology, but ordinary people still doesn't have that privilege. You should read some articles how to expand your battery life.

Interesting read. @Chiapa33 I think battery technology is set to improve in leaps and bounds over the next 5 years with all the effort Elon and others are putting into autonomous vehicles. Personally I am definitely not ready to remove my prop guards :-) But the point on managing the charge rate of the lipos was interesting a mod to add LED's to the drone to indicate current charge would be good.

I tend to leave the Lipo in the drone but unplug it after each flight. Which will be even more the case when I upgrade the battery as my skill improves.

@Roshi I am intrigued to understand what you are presumably wanting to film for 3 to 5 hours?

I wouldn't be surprised to find that some of the world's intelligence services (CIA, KGB, MI-6, Mossad, etc) have that capability in a typical civilian/usage/sized drone (less conspicuous than a Reaper armed with Hellfire missiles), but are keeping it under wraps until something even better comes along. Then the "old tech" can become a "breakthrough technological advance" for us civilians.

 ... It can be done, but not with LiPo batteries, you're going to hafta use gas (more specifically Nitro) power.
These scenarios typically involve a single, central motor with belt drives and variable pitch props that the FC controls
the collective on. That's about all I'm gonna say on the matter ;)
