Help with first build!

I am building my first quad and I am having trouble with the set-up. My flight controller is the 3DR pixhawk. I am having trouble setting it up with a Spektrum DX5E receiver. I bought the separate dongle so that all the motors can tie into the one RC input on the Pixhawk, but the connectors don't fit into the receiver. Has anyone used the Pixhawk with a Spektrum transmitter that had any luck with it?

The new units like the dx9 i have do dsm2 and dsmx but you cant mix receivers if you do its runs at the lower dsm2

Ok so I got the DSM2 satelite receiver and it is connected to the pixhawk in the spkt/dsm port. I cannot get this thing to bind at all with my DX5e. Am I supposed to use it in conjunction with another receiver or standalone? Also if it helps, my setup now that I have it all on a frame, is 4X390kv motors spinning 14x4.7 props. They are on 20A ESC's that connect to a PDB that connects to the power module that comes with the Pixhawk which then connects to the 6S lipo battery. I have been able to do a radio calibration with my 4 channel receiver(which I had to take the cover off to be able to connect any leads to) with it connected to a PPM Encoder(https://store.3drobotics.com/products/ppm-encoder). It allows me to bind and I can do a calibration when connected to the computer. But with my battery connected I cannot arm the motors. Any ideas why?

Hi mate on the software there must a bind section , some times you need to press bind on the software and then cut power and reconnect very quickly to get the gyro in to bind mode then turn on the transmitter holding the bind button ( make sure your 6 feet away when you bind )here is a video

It looks as though there is no software binding option in Mission Planner, but there was one on qgroundcontrol. I got it bound but haven't re-calibrated it so hopefully I can have this thing in the air tonight :)
