Help with basic decision on parts

I want to build an FPV drone with 4"-6" props, and need to know what flight controller would be good for stable video and 3d flight. Most likely going to be using BetaFlight.

I saw something that says F3 flight controllers no longer get new features due to lack of resources. I see there are a variety of F4 and F7 controllers. As a non-professional pilot would an F4 do just about anything an FPV pilot would want or should I look at the F7 controllers? Additionally, there are a ton of controller brands. It would be good to hear what experienced pilots think are the best.

Unless you had one hanging around (which I do, SPF3), I don't know if you could even find a F3 anymore. I would work though. I believe BF supported 3D back then. You just have to set the slider in the config tab.
As you say, the F7 just has more bells & whistles than the F4.
The key is to have an ESC capable of reversing direction, and setting that up in BLHeli.
Mind I don't speak from experience. I did buy the props, and do have a build set up for 3D. Everything checked out in BF, I just don't have the stones to put it in the air. Need more sim time.
