First build problems

Hey guys Im very new to building Quads and this is my first build.
Im building a Quad with the following specs: KK2.1.5 , Q-Brain ESC, 9XR pro controller and X8R receiver, 2200mAh 5c Lipo.
While I was building it, I was soldering the connectors onto the q-brain wires, I turned it on for some retarded reason and I shorted the wires on the q-brain to the motor.
Now every time I turn it on the 4th motor smokes and gets really hot....
What could be the reason? Im thinking that the q-brain is broken now. I have tried different motors and with the same result. Does not matter what motor I put on the 4th link of wires it smokes and fries.

I dont have the KK2.1.5 plugged in so it cant be that effecting it. Could it be the battery I am using? Although before I had the shorting it was working fine.

I opened up the q-brain to have a look for some "burnt" marks and found a few small ones near the soldering for the 4th motor.

Time for a new q-brain?

Thanks for your time.

Great choice on the radio, and the flight controller is perhaps the easiest to adjust.

None of your FETs look burned by looking a the picture, so a resistor or diode probably burned on the other side, can you get a close up of that and look for anything that looks burned or cracked. Did you say that the motor smokes? If that is true then that is bad, and means that the insulation on the coil could be burnt. This would cause the motor to short your ESC when you try to power it on as it is shorting across the coil.

Hey mate thanks for the reply.

Yes the motor smoke when its turned on. So pretty much when I get the new Q-Brain I shouldnt use the motors that have been smoking as they could short the new ESC?
I can open the Q-Brain but I cant open it up to see the other side of the board as there must be glue or some thing holding on the plastic...

Thanks for your reply!

Yes if a motor smokes it is likely that the insulation was burned off or weakened on the coils and they could short.
Hey guys im having some really hard times trying to wire the X8R and the KK2.1.5 together. Please help me out.

I have attached this link to help out.

Thanks so much for any advice.

You should be able to plug them in order from 1 - 5 (5 is optional, 4 needed) Then go into receiver test and check that they are moving the right direction and on the right channel.

Here is a diagram I threw together from some pictures. For it to work you need only 1 negative and one 5v, the rest are signal. The bottom only needs 1 wire, but it is easier this way.

In that bottom diagram you only have 3 jumpers from the receiver going to the KK2.1.5?? It should be 4??
- Sorry im very new :(
By doing it this way you can save using jumpers, you could plug them all in like the first and last, but you only need 1 5v+ and 1 neutral

Ok so I have tried doing what you have said but the receiver is not getting power (you only need 1 5v+ and 1 neutral) im guessing thats where I went wrong, I dont really get what your saying... Im guessing theres no power jumper going to the receiver. Sorry you must be sitting there thinking this guys is retarded hahahhaa

With that current setup the motors just twitch really fast and beeps fast as well. And as I said the receiver gets no power.
Thanks for your patience mate.

Please help

try reversing what you have on the RX, I was making an assumption when I made that diagram, the signal and ground may be reversed, so just mirror what you currently have.

Ok I have the receiver all working your a god send mate. Just the problem with the motors twitching and beeping fast. I can arm the board and nothing will work, jkust beeping and fast twitching any ideas???

Thank

Sounds like you need to calibrate the ACC, the twitching and beeping is the ESCs telling you they have power.

Yea they normally make a sounds every second but this beeping is alot faster then normal... Hmmm calibrate the ACC?
If you don't know about calibrating the ACC (IMUs, or accelerometer) then that is probably your issue. You also need to verify that your controls are all correct by going into receiver test.

Toward thwe bottom of the menue is calibrate accelerometer, sit it on a flat, level (as possible) surface and start the calibration, it will take a few seconds, then hit ok. When you turn the quad copter on you always have to turn the transmitter on, and then plug the quadcopter in. The KK won't arm if you don't.

Ok ive done the ACC calibration and thats was all good. The receiver test is all good. Everything seems fine no errors on the board, just the fast beeping and twitching of the motors :(

Will it arm, and have you went into receiver test? You may have to reverse a channel (I had to reverse throttle). When it arms the board's LCD should say ARMED in big letters and a red light should come on.

Small addition here: when my motor smoked it was the screw holding the motor to the frame rubbing the windings in the motor...
