First Build - FPV Quad 250 Class - Items List

Hello,

I am wondering if any of you very knowledgable people out there would kindly spare the time to provide comment on my items list for my build. I am a total newcomer to building quads, but comfortable with my flying ability on several ready-to-fly models.

I have prepared the items list below and am seeking advice on whether this can be built and flown, and I would greatly appreciate any feedback that anyone is able to offer. It will take quite some time between order and delivery, I am told, so I would like to keep it to a single order. Have I forgotten anything? Made any bad decisions?

I have a soldering iron and bulk cable ties already. Will i need to buy any mounting bolts separately?

Thank you!

Hey, welcome to the forum.

  • You have two receivers, either will work, get the one that supports PPM (also called CPPM).
  • I would suggest you get 15a (or these if you think you might go with 4S at some point) ESCs, because your motors draw approximately 12 amps max, and the ESCs will last longer to have a little bit of over head.

Thank you @GJH105775

So the OrangeRx R615X DSM2/DSMX Compatible 6Ch 2.4GHz Receiver w/CPPM on my list will do nicely then. Great!

Thanks for the advice on the ESCs also. I will go with a 15A alternative, so there is a little more headroom with the motors' power draw. I notice neitehr of the ESCs you linked specify that they have been flashed with SimonK firmware. I understand that this can be done later, with the right USB programming tool, but it is worth just sourcing already-SimonK-flashed ESCs for my first build?

The Predator V2 setup reads pretty well in general, and I have also watched YouTube reviews. Can anyone tell me whether it is a huge disadvantage flying with 25-degree FOV as opposed the the 32-degree offered by more expensive goggles? Then there is the head-tilt feature, which the Predator V2 does not offer...is there anyone that would recommend that a first-time builder integrate a head-tilt system, or is this something I would be best placed to tacked a year or so down the line?

Cheers!

Honestly 25 degrees vs 32 degrees FOV is all up to the user's opinion, the 25 may make OSD look neater, but if you get used to one the other will feel weird.

I would suggest you really stay away from a head tracker this early on as learning to fly may be hard enough without the quad's tilt changing relative to you hahaha.
