First Build: Camera Platform

Hi I am looking into building a quadcopter. I have experience flying a LaTrax Alias. It is a blast to fly, but I would like to build something that is simple and easy to fly that possibly later would be a platform to do video or pictures from. FPV is not my thing I have concluded I like to see where the Quad is. I have experience with build models and other RC platforms. I don't care to spend too much I see this as a weekend hobby and just want a simple build that I can expand upon and have fun building and flying. Any help is appreciated.
 
Just a suggestion.. this is an old thread although you may get some suggestion... but maybe if you posted or asked the mod to move you to either the "First Build" forum or look at the option sin the "Build" section - it may be you get in touch with those who are involved in building. I know nothing about building although if Jackson comes on.. he is one of the best to help in matter kits and building.
 
My budget is around $300. I am looking into building a platform for simple flying and possibly a camera mount down the road. Really I am looking for a platform I can expand upon if I want. I would like a sturdy frame that is simple.
