DJI Spark: Stymied by a QR code...

Have the blue spark sitting here, the remote beside it, my Android cellphone, and the black box. I got the wifi set up and can connect to either my WIFI, the Spark's WIFI, or the remote's WIFI, but no two at the same time.

After doing lots of wifi switching, I managed to get the firmware downloaded and updated. That was a puzzle.

Now, I'm to "Activate Device." Ran the spark's battery down to 2 leds trying various combinations or wifi connections, qr codes, lighting, distances, and curse words.

So, to activate the device, do you connect to the remote's wifi or the spark's wifi? Do you scan the remote's qr code, or the spark's? Do you curse in English, German, Klingon or Vulcan?

Dang, it's hard to scan that code. Tried it with my reading lamp, and the bedroom lamp. I'll try it again outside in the sunshine in the morning.

Note to DJI: MAKE THE STUPID QR LABELS BIGGER.

Perhaps it's a test to eliminate autistics. "They'll never get the QR code scanned before crying and throwing it in the trash."

So, my wifi is connected to park-RD-adbae2.

I start DJI GO 4.

I see the pretty picture of the people on the van. Notice that they are barefoot ;)

It shows me a picture of a spark, shows an RC Connected and an "Enter Device >" button that takes me to Choose Your Next Step. Activate, Connect or Enter Camera View.

Activate goes to scan the QR code without going to login or register...

I am assuming park-RD-adbae2. is your internet connection?
Been awhile since I did this. But have you registered on line at the DJI web site? Created an "account". If memory serves me right (and a lot of times it does not haha) you need that first.
If not, I am sure someone will jump in here and correct me.

Good luck!

"park-RD-adbae2"

Nope, that's a frustrated brat trying to type. I was connected to "spark-RC-adbae2" which is the controller's wifi.

Again, its been a while.
But if your trying to activate the device you need internet access. So on your home WiFi.
Also, I think you still need an Account with DJI.

Someone should jump in here who is more adept. :D

Ok. We need to shout this from the housetops!
To keep new Spark owners from having meltdowns.

If you are using Android on your device, DO NOT go to the Play Store and download DJI GO 4. It does not work for setting up your drone. Instead, open this thread on your android and go to:

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/dj ... droid-apk-download/

It took a lot of clicking around and you'll have to enable apps from unknown sources, but this is version 4.1.15. This will get your drone set up. Once you have set up and flown your spark, you can update to the one in the play store. The one from the play store can't read the QR codes, and once you get around that, leaves your drone locked so it can't take off. The older version 4.1.15 works and the newer one works fine for already flown sparks.

This has been the case since April 28, 2018. You would think DJI would have done something about it by now. It's now July 16, 2018.

If you're using iOS instead of Android, you can ignore this as the iOS version works fine.

Solves:
DJI Spark can't read QR codes.
DJI Spark Aircraft Locked. Cannot take off.

If you are using Android on your device, DO NOT go to the Play Store and download DJI GO 4.0. It does not work for setting up your drone. Instead, open this thread on your android and go to:

Thanks for jumping in here.

Hmm. While flying a bit ago, the go app crashed out. Didn't seem to effect the drone or the remote, but the "return to home"' button on the remote didn't do any thing.

For Tentoes. Pretty well everyone with a Spark or Mavic connects the controller to the device with an OTG cable instead of via wifi. No loss of signal and virtually zero latency. Plus I can power up and be in the air in under 10 seconds. But if the P3S has any issues, I don't know why OTG wouldn't work on it as well.

P3S does not have that capability. Wish it did!
