I am building a quadrocopter and have almost all the components. I now need to buy a PDB to provide power to the ESCs / Motors. And I'm not sure what power rating / power specs I need in a PDB.
When it comes to power requirements (e.g. volts, amps, watts) I know the basics, but just want to check-in with others who are more knowledgeable than me. My components are:
My goal is to take high altitude photos and just generally have fun flying around. One specific goal is to have a useful load of around 1 1/2 pounds. And I'll be measuring the thrust output of each motor at 100% power using a kitchen scale (as suggested by someone on another forum).
With all that said, can anyone tell me what kind of power rating I will need from a PDB? And if anyone can provide links to a suggested PDB, that would be very helpful.
For quick reference, here are the specs on the motors.
When it comes to power requirements (e.g. volts, amps, watts) I know the basics, but just want to check-in with others who are more knowledgeable than me. My components are:
- Batteries: 7.4V 80C 7200mAh 2s Lipo. Qty 2: batteries will be wired in parrallel.
- Motors: T-MOTOR MN2206 KV2000. Qty 4: according to the specs, when spinning a 7" prop at 100% power should draw 7A per motor. But, specs say max continuous current is 18A.
- Props: 7x6 by APC Propellers. Qty 4: I realize the prop noted on the motor specs is a 7x2.4, but I couldn't find that pitch. So, I'm gonna try these props out and see how it goes. I'm thinking with 3.6" of extra pitch VS the specs, it should draw more current, so I'd like to select a PDB capable of handling the max continuous power of 18A. Is my line of thinking correct here???
- Flight Controller: Raspberry Pi 3, running CleanFlight controller software or something similar. I don't think this comes into play when deciding on power requirements for a PDB, but just figured I'd list it anyway.
