A question about smartphones and tablets

(Apologies in advance if this sounds like a rather dumb question).

I realise that with most quads, if you want to take serious photos or video. you need to have a smartphone or tablet on your controller.

But does this mean you have to have an airtime contract?

I'm asking because all I have is a cheap pay-as-you-go mobile, and I've never needed anything else. If I had to buy a smartphone or tablet just to use with a quadcopter, I would (probably something cheap, and probably secondhand), but I'd hate to sign up for a mobile phone contract, just for this purpose.

Hi mate smart phone or tablet is for FPV , most use a go pro and use a link to send the image to FPV goggles, but the go pro does the HD videos on to a memory card
