Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

The international listing for the x580 - files area includes two CNC motor mount diagrams! So that's a pretty clear admission that the fiberglass plates are a failure. I uploaded the deflection still anyway, but nothing I've uploaded to HobbyKing has made it into the files areas, and most of...

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

Congratulations. It seems you have isolated the issue. And it seems to be centered on the cheapest part of your quad to replace (apart from the props). You're getting the H.A.L. quad -- 585 frame? It looks good. No fiberglass anywhere on it! :) So it appears that when the frequency of flex...

Very New, About to build my 1st

If you buy the "Donkey motor", it has a 44mm mounting! So good idea not printing before you get them. Try to integrate the mount plate into the aluminum arm so that at least one bolt goes through the arm itself. That will stabilize things and take the strain off the 3d printed part.

Very New, About to build my 1st

Looking at your design, you can go either way. Smaller props give you more room for a larger center deck. Later on, you'll probably sling a camera underneath, so trying to video between props isn't a factor. 600mm is easier to transport than 840, and 11 inches is a good common prop for that...

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

I'm going to post this on the HobbyKing forums and see what others say. Since all the stuff comes from HobbyKing, that should make me some friends over there. :( Here's a link if you want to track the responses. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=58416&PID=278095#278095

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

Looking back on this thread, I noticed you have tape on both sides of a prop to balance it. But the tape is on the leading edge of one side and the trailing edge of the other, so the weight is all on one size of the shaft hole. I can't say that is a factor, but at some speed it will be...

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

Yeah, THIS isn't good! Going frame by frame, at :15 I see the first vibration go harmonic. At :30 I see the first large deflection beginning. At :31 the motor is deflecting about 30 degrees! I think this motor's bearings were defective to start with. Does it happen more or less the same way...

I figured out the RCTimer "annunicator" (LED board)

RCTimer sells a kit that I bought, with the ArduFlyer 2.5.2, a ublox LEA-6H GPS/compass, telemetry radio and transceiver, and this "annunicator" made by UAV Objects with four LEDs on it. The board has a sort of BEC on one end, marked "2-6S", and you connect the LED + leads to the right UART...

New quad lives... sort of. Motors get hot, and pitch is reversed.

I ran my battery, prop and motor numbers through eCalc and it confirms that my motors are being roasted to death by the 4S lipo. That may also explain why the thing tries to blast off like a rocket -- too many watts running through it. I have 3S lipos on order from HobbyKing (US warehouse) for...

New quad lives... sort of. Motors get hot, and pitch is reversed.

While HobbyKing stares at my battery order, with their fingers in their noses, I'm still working this pitch reverse issue. Anyone have an idea how I can isolate it? I guess I can plug the ESC leads directly into the receiver and see if the pitch is still reversed, huh? And I've noticed that my...

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

I watched your video several more times, stepping through slowly to try and see if the vibration begins at the prop hub or motor plate. at 47 seconds, it's vibrating too much, but between 48 and 49 seconds, the vibration reaches a resonant frequency that is sympathetic to the deflection -- it...

    Quad copter flips over

What frame is it? I ask because Danny Choate at QuadLugs uses the KK2 and qbrain a lot with his frames, so he may have a good answer. I doubt it has anything to do with the frame, but he's more likely to take more time if you bought a frame from him... If not, you may want to consider it...

    Hello from Calgary

The small quads are fun indoors. I've found that Flyin' Ryan is a good source for reviews and information on these "toy"-class quads. Here's his latest info on the Proto X: We all look forward to you joining in discussions on multi-rotor craft that are a bit larger, or DIY, where there are...

Very New, About to build my 1st

If you are new to this, starting with an 840 is ambitious, but with what you have now, you want to target props of 13 to 15 inches, and get pretty low kv motors to drive them. The first complication I can see is you may need a battery with a higher current rating than 30 to drive four motors...

    Helimax 230SI

I would expect Flyin' Ryan to review this, considering it's a 200-class, with a RTF radio, but he hasn't yet. I bet you could gut the thing and put the good parts in a new frame.

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

Those motor plates are held on by two bolts? Can you make NEW motor plates? And work again to balance props. I think the short motor shaft isn't helping either. The adapters are working like big washers. You cannot use outside holes because the slots in the motor plate are too long. And...

Beginner need help with propeller / motor vibrations!

There is always the issue of spacers between prop and shaft. If they are too close in size to fit a spacer, it is a problem. The motors you are using I found on HobbyKing and have 3mm shafts. The props I think are adapted to 5 or 6mm. Do you have correct adapter? I notice in the video, you...

The worst is DealExtreme. They offer "free shipping", but I think they actually do it by ship, and it either has sails or oars.

New quad lives... sort of. Motors get hot, and pitch is reversed.

I visited a VERY smart friend last night who explained to me that, motors work a bit differently than other power systems, due to the additional element of torque to produce "work". Apparently, using a 3S lipo works where using a 4S lipo gets too hot because the motor derives/produces torque...

is this a good start for a beginner on a budget?

For quads in this range, I like Flyin' Ryan's reviews. Here's his: I think this would be a pretty good learning quad, and with a camera it will have some continued function after you graduate to a larger one.
