New to forum, new to "real" drones, looking to increase range.

An interesting discussion, thanks both. For what it is worth, I have a JJRC X11. I've been increasingly impressed with it as it is robust and well thought out. I have crashed it badly, twice, against a wall and a roof, both times totally my fault, and it has survived, a little battered, but...

    Where do you buy parts?

That Skydio 2 looks most impressive. Wonderful rock solid cinematography and impressive obstacle avoidance. I struggled to get a spare arm for my X11, eventually ordered one from rc-helicopter-spare-parts-online.com but they don't have any Skytracker parts, sorry, neither, it seems does Banggood.

    Where do you buy parts?

Sorry, not an answer, but a concern. Reading some reviews of this at Walmart, it seems that it has a propensity to become an escapeologist. I've had one drone that decided to go off on holiday, with a fully charged battery, so it could have landed several miles away. I didn't see it again , but...

Anyone have an MJX B4W drone?

Have you had any further thoughts on whether the Sjrc Z5 was a better buy than the MJX B4W? As the Z5 is in the sub 250gm category, it might suit some people better than the B4W, but then, I assume, it will be slightly less stable than the 640gm B4W. Also, I notice that it has brushed motors...

Looking for recommendations, photo quad built from parts

I use an Akaso V50 X, underslung, but with no powered gimble. The video quality is good IMO. My usage is just to get the video after the flight. The WiFi range and app performance using my Android 'phone, is the weak point though, so I'm not sure that using this camera with FPV googles is going...

    5g phone using drone query

I don't have an iphone 7 but the specs say that it does have IEEE 802.11ac ie 5GHz WiFi, so I would be surprised if it does not work. The iphone 7 was released in 2016. As I read it, almost anything that new will work on 802.11 ac.

    Syma W1

SWMBO will understand that it is much cheaper than a dog and has to be taken out for healthy walks. :)

    Syma W1

Hi Richard, 684gms, robust, handles well and is quite stable in wind, but then I've only had toy drones beforehand to compare with. Note: The camera is not stabilised and the flight is more forward, check, forward, check than smooth, so there is a slight jerk on the video. The 90 degree...

    No picture

I have a similar problem in that I connect to the WiFi OK but the app doesn't connect to the drone. I have discovered that this often clears as soon as the drone gets airborne. Plus, as Holtneil says, the WiFi has a tendency to reconnect to my home WiFi or stronger WiFi if one is nearby. I'm...

    Syma W1

Not much help, sorry, but I would recommend that you pay a little more to get a physical controller with it. My Syma X5SC is great fun, well built, but has renewed my tree climbing skills to retrieve it, so your choice of a GPS drone is an essential minima, IMO. You will not regret the two...

    Flight modes on a tether

Take care. When I was first fiddling with my JJRC X11, with it running, I didn't realise the implications of it fighting against me, until I let it go. This was the result: Brick walls fight back!

UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Drone Regulations

Meanwhile, on the regulation front, The CAA registration scheme has been running since November. It seems fairly straightforward and sensible to me, but Mr. MPW writes that the UK Drone and Model Aircraft Education and Registration Scheme (DMARES) will only be in place until mid 2020 when when...

    Batteries and Charging

Thanks. Received my LiPo tester today. No instructions, but plenty of explanatory YouTube videos to help. Tested my 1S cells. All seem to be at above safe storage charge, so need to run them down a bit. A useful little device especially at the price and includes 1st class postage in the UK.

    SJRC Z5 question(s)

My understanding is that tf or TransFlash is just SanDisk's brand name for its microSD cards, There is no technical difference.

    Batteries and Charging

Thanks Holtneil, I've ordered one, but for others, please note that this comes without leads. A more expensive, more comprehensive product might be: HTRC iMAX B6 AC 80W Digital LCD RC Lipo LiFe NiMh NiCD Battery Balance Charger

    Potensic d80 drone

Mine holds a full charge for a few days but the advice on the Batteries and Charging thread is that it is safest to leave the battery partially discharged if you are not going to use it within a few days.

    Batteries and Charging

I should have qualified that comment, if you don't have a proper LiPo charger. I would prefer to charge my JJRC X11 (Bugs 4W) battery with something like the SkyRC B6 but the connections don't appear suited to such a charger. Before putting my drone away for any length of time, I'll follow...

    Batteries and Charging

It sounds as if we should be pushing for these cells to be made out of Lithium Iron Phosphate and accept the slight reduction in the power to weight ratio. So next time you see a Tesla, just remember that it is powered by NCA: Nickel Cobalt Aluminium, cells, and take suitable action. :( (I'm...

Is my drone hobby going to be a short lived one ?

Just been reading your regulations. They don't sound much different to those in the UK, at first glance. ie "The registration number must be clearly visible on the drone. You can use: permanent marker permanent label engraving" Registering Of course you can just buy a Mavik Mini (249 gms)...
