I have a cheap FlySky FS-CT6B Transmitter and a FlySky FS-R6B receiver. Similar to this one. I would have thought it would have a fail safe too... I do notice that if you turn the Transmitter on and off I get errors on the KK2.1, I would have thought that it would be okay.

Yes if your motor only draws 14-18Amps you'll want a 30A ESC, I wouldn't go any smaller. A 30A ESC will only be able to deliver a maximum of 30A continuous. Typically they can peak higher for short durations depending on the ESC. Typically you'll want to run your ESCs well below their rating...

Also a word of caution, don't go randomly flashing your ESC with whatever hex file, you need to be 100% sure the picture of your ESC matches the pictures in the links above exactly! Any difference at all at you could blow up your ESC and possibly your battery if you don't have another power...

Hmm, 12" is pushing it but I might be able to fit them. It might be easier for me to get 1000kV motors though since I'd prefer agility over stability (I've heard big props can be sluggish at accelerating). My motors are cheap ebay A2212 930kv (I think they are knock offs of another brand...)...
