Fpv antenna question.

So I just received the eachine vr 007 pro goggles in the mail. And it came with a dipole antenna 5.8G 3dB, RP-SMA. I want to upgrade the antenna. Can I throw a 5dB clover on it to maximize my distance? And if not, what are some good quality options out there? I can't go half a football field away without terrible snow. I knew getting into these goggles that I was going to have to upgrade the antenna. How much MORE range will I get with a better antenna?

Hey Ryan...............upgrading antennas can be a tricky proposition. Mismatched antennas could decrease your range. Also, different frequencies require different antenna lengths. Mismatched antennas have the potential to actually decrease your range. What is the power output on your VTX??

Just use two antenna that are the same.
2 di- pole or 2 mushroom clover.
But not one di-pole & clover.
Just make sure the clover are rhcp
(right hand circuler polarizer)
Or (lhcp) this is just which way the shape of the antenna is made. I can't see why but ppl day (Rhcp) is better.

The VR007 goggles only have one antenna. I believe the stock one is a dipole. I'd do a YouTube search on 'VR007 antenna upgrade' and see if someone has experimented and reported results. I would bet someone has, since the VR007's are popular 'starter' FPV goggles. Both my sons started FPV flying with them.

And if I need to match antenna should I get an Emerson rc mushroom antenna? It will surely be better than this dipole I have now right? I guess I was kind of hoping that I could upgrade the antenna on my goggles only and get really good reception all over the football field I fly at

I have a fat shark Emerson rc mushroom antenna
Hey Ryan..................."mushroom" antenna is RC jargon for "circular polarized" antenna. There are any number of them out there that would work fine for you. Just remember that most come in two flavors...."Transmitter/Tx" and "Receiver/Rx". You need the one for the "Receiver/Rx". I did a quick eBay search on "5.8ghz circular polarized antenna".

Here's the link..............https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...kw=5.8ghz+circular+polarized+antenna&_sacat=0

Out of all of those which one do you believe would be my best bet? Probably sticking with the fat shark immersion rc ones probably?

That's what I would do, Ryan. That would be your best bet of best compatibility..............
Thanks dragger! And what is the one I want that looks like a female? My goggles have the pin in the middle that slide into the pin hole on the antenna. What is the proper term for it? I would say female because the antenna has the hole. But when I look on eBay it seems the female antenna are the one with the pin in the middle

OH, Ryan, study up on RP-SMA and SMA connectors to be sure you get an antenna with the right kinda connector. I forget which is which, but if you get a mismatch in one direction, it just won't connect. But even worse, if you get a mismatch in the other direction, it will bolt up, but will not make a connection between the antenna and the Receiver in your goggles.................

Check it out, but I believe you need an antenna with an RP-SMA "male".................
