I had stored my Tarot away for the winter, but Saturday was a nice day so I decided to take it out and do a short way point mission in order to review all the steps I need to to in order to prepare it for flight. I had wrapped the motors and camera/gimbal in plastic to protect from dust - after unwrapping and connecting the aircraft to Mission Planner I checked and tweaked some parameters and recalibrated the compass - further tweaked the compass by comparing aircraft compass heading to my iphone compass until I got within 1 degree. Then I drew up a short way point mission around the golf course behind my house and uploaded it the flight controller.
I take off manually and if satisfied, switch to the autopilot. The first way point is a timed loiter to make sure that everything is okay before proceeding. I can take over manually at any point and I always have RTL as a backup flight mode in case things go awry, but the flight was flawless.
