Picking a new frame for FY 3D X8 components

Okay so I learned the hard way that the plastic body of the Flying 3D X8 is cheap junk.

However, this thing is fast. I really like the motors and it has a ton of great features. GPS, telemetry, barometer, compass etc. So I am wondering how it would be to put all these things on a new, more durable frame?

Not sure what all else. It does have an external GPS module and a mini USB port for firmware updates.

12a ESCs sound really small for 935kv motors, and I have heard good things about the bigshark FC.

What size props and battery do you have?

It comes with 8045 props. A lot of people recommend upgrading them to 9045.

They sell it with a 2400mHa battery (15min flight time) and plastic case to hold it in the large bay, or with a 5000mAh battery (25-30min claimed flight time) with no plastic case.

I have the 2400mAh version and an extra 3000mAh battery

Cool frame but smaller than the 350mm frame that you have. I came across this 450mm frame on sale. It's pretty cool looking and all your parts will fit;

I agree you do need to upgrade your ESC's. These should work for you;

A little soldering. Some wire ties. A couple different size props to experiment with and your good to go!!

Thanks for the great info. I will be upgrading the ESC's.

I like some of the 450 flamewheel type frames I've seen. Does anyone know any potential benefits to the ones that have slightly elevated arms? I've noticed they add a slight tilt inwards to the motors.

Also, if I go with something like that I will probably need more mounting plates than just the top and bottom, so if anyone has a link to buy extra plates that would be much appreciated.

Your 12A ESCs are fine.

I found this chart for Emax MT2213 935KV motors.

Some other similar.

12A seems fine to me.

The frame you chose looks cool, but try to find one that has spare arms available.

Thanks, great info. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It looks cool and is affordable, but what about the inevitable crash.. That's why I'm leaning more towards the flamewheel types now.

Ya know. For the price of that frame you could buy 3 or 4 and have lots of spare parts!
Jackson's right. The 12a ESC's are adequate. You mentioned a couple of times that you wanted to upgrade them. Do they appear to be cheesy? Bad construction? Nobody wants a failure while in flight so I understand your concern.
Why not make a quad from wood and if any parts fail you are only out a couple bucks. Upgrade the bad parts and install everything in a quad you like.
