My First Setup

Hello,

I'm new to the quadcopter community. Some of my classmates do have a quadcopter and my interest in it has always been big. With the holiday in sight, i started to gain information about quads. I want my quadcopter to be able to film with a cheap go-pro version in the future, and make my own landing gear with servo. But first i must learn to fly.

The setup i had in mind is:
- 550 mm frame (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=30021)

I'm still not sure which motor i will choose. Think i like the NTM the most.
- SunnySky X2212 KV980
- MT2213 935KV Multistar motor and propeller combo (Hobbyking)
- NTM prop drive series 28-30 900KV (Hobbyking)

- Hobbyking power distribution board. (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...r_Power_Distribution_Board_EU_warehouse_.html) (or should i use a breakout cable?)

For the receiver and transmitter.
- Turnigy 9x from hobbyking

Flight control.
- KK2.1HC (and i will buy the programmer ofcourse)

ESC.
- Afro ESC 30A (Heard that afro also had an BEC? In it? can't really figure out what a BEC or BSC is for?)
- or this one. Saw it in a post in the forum. (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__2164__TURNIGY_Plush_30amp_Speed_Controller.html)

The total weight will be 800 gram, without the props, bolts, screws, cables and battery. I really doný know which props i have to take, i'm thinking about 10 inch or 11 inch if possible. Also don't really know which battery to take, i know 3s but next?

I would like to hear others opinion on my setup, and get some feedback. Sorry for the bad English (I'm from The Netherlands).

Welcome to the forums, I can tell you have been looking through some post, as your PDB has an xt60 connector, you are getting a KK programmer, and using the Turnigy 9x, these are the most common problems with a build, but yours looks great.

Battery: 5200 mAh, from Mutistar @ 331 grams you may consider getting a couple, and you also need a smaller battery for the Turnigy 9x

Check this out regarding a it is a post I made for FPV, but includes info that might be useful to you.

BEC means"Battery Eliminator Circuit", basically it is a step-down DC-DC transformer, steps things down to 5v for the lower voltage components.

Take a look at this guide I am working on, skip down to "Choosing ESCs (and BEC)", the guide is only about 40% done, but may be of use.

Hi mate welcome to the forum , George has answered most , but I will add on the ESC a switching BEC is better than a linear BEC, they both work but the linear can get hotter than the switching type , As for props 10x4.7 would work well on the motors listed 11 inch may push the loading up 30amp should be ok , But I normally work on after 10 inch props go for a lower KV motor as this has more torque to spin the bigger prop , I run a 650KV motor with 14x5.5 props on a 700 class quad
The 550 frame you listed does not take a crash well , the more crash proof frame would be the Flame wheel 450 with built in PDB

this is cheap to buy so you can get 2 this will give you spare arms this is what snapped 99% of the time in a crash , and with the 900 or 100kv motor will be fast too

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the responses. I will stick to this frame because of the size and the looks of it. The esc will be (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__2164__TURNIGY_Plush_30amp_Speed_Controller.html) this one. And for the motors i was thinking of http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...y_4206_530kv_Brushless_Multi_Rotor_Motor.html these one (Would like to have some opinions of it). I knew a lower kV was better but still didn't figured out why. Always thought that more kV would make te props make more rpm and that was better. And for the power distribution i will use the breakout cable

Hi the big Kv motors spin small props like a 250 racer will have 2300kv motors on a 5or 6 inch prop, they have a short flight time as they are made for speed
Low Kv have a higher torque and will spin very much bigger props so this will help with flight times , most mtors will only take a faction of a second to get the props up to speed
the Bigger frames normally use lower Kv as the pilot is not looking for the speed side of flying , there is nothing stopping you using 1200kv on a 10x4.7 prop on a 666mm frame if it will fly how you want it to fly its personal taste
So if you want a fast quad go for high KV small light frame
if you want a mix flying then mid range KV 10 or 11 inch prop, will give you a mix of speed and flight time
big frame low KV big props will give you flight times but wont fly like a 250 frame
