Hello everyone... I'm completely new to all things FPV and proper Drones, so I'm currently clinging on for dear life & fighting my way up the vertical learning curve that faces everyone just starting out. My 9yo son & I bought a toy micro drone a few months ago, just as a starter to see if we enjoyed it. It was great fun, but it only took us a week to completely trash it as we neither of us can fly properly. It's taken me a while to get my 3D Printer back online (got sidetracked dealing with baby boy #2), & as I come from an IT background I figured that it was a good opportunity to move away from Fusion 360 & finally learn OnShape whilst I design a new body that I can slip all the still fully working micro drone components into to resurrect it for the boys (in a new & easily fixable form). All good fun, but it still doesn't change the fact that neither of us can currently fly drones properly...
Thankfully, I have also spent time reading around the subject a little & getting stuck into YouTube.
Yesterday, I sprung the cash & bought a RadioMaster Pocket Crush Radio Controller (ELRS) and a Velocidrone key. Once I can get a virtual drone off the ground and actually start to become more-or-less competent at flying, I'll build a drone & get an FPV headset. Meanwhile, I'll let my 9yo loose in Velocidrone. Once he gets competent enough, I'll hand over the Pocket Crush Controller & DIY Drone #1 to him & get myself a RadioMaster TX16S (ELRS) & build DIY Drone #2... I run Linux & I'm big on Open Source stuff, so ELRS feels like the right choice - particularly since I'll be building my own stuff to begin with rather than buying into closed ecosystems.
So, that's me & my cunning plans Big Grin
