*** updated *** I wound up buying a dome housing and mounting the GPS/mag above everything, but after getting responses elsewhere, I did line the bottom of the top deck with thick aluminum foil. ***
I got a little plastic "IdeaFly" canopy for my quad at Hobby People, and got carried away when I found a can of "spray chrome" (aluminum paint) in my cabinet.
I'm planning on having the flight controller permanently rubber-band sprung under that canopy, and eventually I want to get a pedestal and dome for my GPS/mag, but until that comes in, I wanted to start with the GPS/mag stuck to the inside of the (now painted) canopy.
Will the GPS performance be impacted by the aluminum paint?
Does a GPS (or mag) work less well if it is not perfectly flat? The temporary mount point may be a few degrees tilted forward or backward, it's tough to say. Obviously when a quad tilts forward or back the GPS does too, so I'm not sure it matters as long as the arrow points forward.
I could rig up a sort of pedestal to mount in the target destination. It would just take longer.
Incidentally, does anyone think the aluminum paint might offer any value as a shield against interference?
