Can anyone help me understand budget fpv gear

I finally built my first Nighthawk 250 quadcopter and now I'm looking into fpv gear. I noticed on eBay you can get a bosscam 200mw transmitter and receiver for 50$. What is the difference between the 200 and 600mw. I don't really want to spend 350$ more on getting fpv gear with decent range. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
I know very, very little about quads, which is why I'm here, but my background is in radio (like radio stations), on the bands that are being used with RC, how far you can control something is mainly going to be determined by height,,then some by power.

Let's put it this way, we determined that a 6000 watt FM at 300 ft (Class A), doesn't get out as far as a 250 watt translator (same frequency) at about 850 ft. Height is everything,,,power is little
