To settle this thread, it seems the way to go is mount underneath mainly because of the center of gravity. I've done that today with "ok" results, but I know I can do better so I'll be experimenting a bit more.

I finally received the new board I ordered. Today I replaced it and now it works perfectly.

I received my new X8C and was able to bind it to the old X8C remote. I guess I'll never know what exactly happened here.

Thanks for your suggestion. But as far as I know to recalibrate you first need to bind the Controller. See video I posted previously on this thread, and also this link. Unless you're referring to some other method I haven't seen yet?
