HELP I HAVE NI IDEA WHAT I'M DOING!

You'll need a radio -- just get the Turnigy 9x -- everybody does (package comes with receiver). Or you can get a Spectrum for less. I wouldn't get fewer than 5 channels though. Why the Plush ESCs over the Afros? Afros have SimonK firmware and IT MATTERS! Look at the KK2 controller. It's very...

FAA Bans Drones for Agriculture Use

Your farm is your backyard. And you can fly an APM quad with waypoints to audit your fields, recording video, and watch it later with GPS coordinate overlay. I think it's FPV they are targeting. And actually a fixed-wing RC is better since it would have longer flight duration. Look at the...

New Quadcopter and Hexacopter Drones Will Be in Extremely Short Supply in ... - Marketwired...

Manufacturers and vendors are aware of the growing demand, but here's the thing. Right after tens of thousands of them get sold to non-pilots, the news will be filled with stories about stupid uses and injuries. One thing we can do is be vigilant on the forums and boards we participate on for...

Oregon teenager's drone worried firefighting crews - Salon

None of these incidents involve safety. It all boils down to TURF. "Authorities" are getting butthurt over citizens taking to the air, albeit by proxy, when government feels it owns the air and everything you can see from it. So I have a response to government: "Check your arrogance."

    my new RC quadcopter

The problem with small quads is that they have very little mass. That combined with a small battery makes the uneven current cause throttle shifts you have to compensate for. Larger quads with more lipo cells have more stable power, and more mass to dampen instability.

    my new RC quadcopter

I have a (larger) UDI 816a. It sounds like your smaller quad is more stable than mine, and I'm happy for you. (mine DOES NOT hover!) I still recommend new flyers get something even larger with altitude hold, since the principle learning task is head-in flight and coordinated (3-axis) turns...

Quadcopter Simulator for android / iOS (FPV, Gimbal, Return Home, Crs Lk ,Hm Lk, etc..)

Nice. Now if I could buddy-cable my radio to my tablet...

First Quadcopter build started - video diary

My SunnySky motors came with Nyloc nuts (nuts with nylon inserts) so they don't get loose in flight. I'd get a set of those and not sweat it. You'll also want some kind of ratchet and socket. My nylocs are 10mm and I use a "palm ratchet" -- a flat round knurled-edge socket holder. You don't...

Correct rotation problem WL toys V959

Different controllers "number" the motors differently. All quads have diagonally opposed motors spinning the same way -- otherwise they could not maintain altitude while yawing, but there is no standard for front right CW or CCW. Usually you can just swap two ESC leads to change rotation on...

    Problems with CC3D

A long time ago, I worked at a specialty/tech shop and I learned to diagnose RS232. The hardest connections were to plotters, because if you got the handshaking wrong, the tx end didn't get the signal to pause transmission when the rx buffer filled, but it took a print file with lots of short...

    first quadcopter

450 is a more common frame size than 460. Find out (if you can) if the frame is aluminum tubing, fiberglass or what. NAZA lite is fine. More likely it's an Orange RX (receiver) and the radio is a Spectrum DX7 (not usually referred to as a controller). It's odd they cannot give you a motor...

    Problems with CC3D

Some USB cables are designed to only charge something like a phone, and do no include any of the data leads! Those can really be a pain because you see the thing has power! So what could be wrong? That had me going with my first APM controller. I found a short cable in the drawer and figure...

    Left Rudder Vibration Issue

Glad you got it sorted. Yes, pusher and puller props are not necessarily mirror images as you need on a quad to turn CW & CCW. Now with four PROPer props, things work better.

First Quadcopter build started - video diary

I'm used to seeing those fans in "blade" servers that run like demons. 140ma is not significant and is at least offset by cooler components.

First Quadcopter build started - video diary

I'm sure a steep-pitch bladed fan like that will circulate air! How much current does that thing draw though?

    Obstacle Avoidance Quadcopter

IR doesn't work outdoors in daylight because that huge yellow IR emitter in the sky kind of blows everything else away. Sonar sensors, like the ones used on the bottom of the Parrot AR Drone work better. There are sonar sensor kits for Arduino. Of course, any quad would have to fly very...

    Decision help wanted

Where are you coming from? Do you fly RC now? I don't know about the outgrow part, if you anticipate moving to 4k video at some point. Neither of these will carry much more than a Hero3. It seems you're motivated to go with RTF. Have you looked at OFM (Only Flying Machines)? They...

    Features in a transmitter

I had a Turnigy 9x, but now I have a Fr Sky Taranis, and it's well worth the difference. The Taranis has more controls, and ones you really use. More three-position switches, better screen, and a USB connection already in place for firmware upgrades, and load/save model configurations. It...

    First Build

Almost any motor/lipo/prop configuration that doesn't overheat the motors will lift a quad. The question is, will you achieve hover at 50% throttle, and will your all-up-weight produce unacceptable flight duration. The motor kv, lipo and props you specd. would work well on an X-quad from 450...
