Thanks, as a follow up, I unsoldered the short piece, and re soldered another length 12.5cm re inspected my soldering, looked for bad solder etc, removed board etc.... Reassembled with same result. So I'm convinced I've somehow damaged the board. I've ordered another transmitter.

I just soldered a length of similar gauge wire to the existing short antenna making it 12.5 cm total. Ever since I did that the controller is not functioning properly.

just finished extending the short 3 cm antenna to 12.5 cm. But when it's turned back on the transmitter light turns on then off and the tone makes a steady tone. I'm wondering if the heat from soldering could have caused this problem.
