Can you build a quad with no laptop

No. You absolutely have to have a Windows 10 or similar computer lol, I tried with a chromeboom and was able to fly many kwads but in the end you realize your limits. You need a computer.

I don't think anyone here used that protocol. I was wanting to try it though

NEWB Trouble with holding altitude (not altitude hold)

Yeah that battery is way too big. I recommend a 1300-1500 for 5" kwads. Race Day Quads.com sells some excellent brands and I can usually find 3 or 4s sizes as I use both. Try the cnhl or the rdq brands. Very solid batts.

NEWB Trouble with holding altitude (not altitude hold)

Throttle control just takes a lot of practice. I'm guessing you're flying fpv? You have to constantly be giving it gas and letting off. You do it without even thinking about it after a while. The sims aren't really an accurate recreation of actually flying but the do give you a good starting point.

    Qx65 Help

You'll have to go into betaflight modes tab to set an aux switch for your different modes, angle and horizon. Acro mode is actually default/lack of mode. Velociodrone is my favorite sim.

    fpv battery 4s or 6s?

It depends on how much voltage your electronics can handle and the motor kv also comes into play.

    To build or buy

I say build your own. That way you'll always be able to fix it. Just be ready to do a LOT of soldering wires onto boards. The set up and programming the firmware isn't that difficult and there are a ton of videos walking you through the process. Build, fly, crash, repeat!

New Holy Stone HS270. Just about nothing seems to work.

"My question is, are there any other quad manufacturers besides DJI that make good drones?" That's the real trick, DJI seems to have the market cornered that's why many of us prefer home rolled. I could go on why I don't choose DJI but this isn't a smear thread lol. There used to be a fairly...

New Holy Stone HS270. Just about nothing seems to work.

Yeah they took you for a ride unfortunately. For all the features you want you'll have to spend a little more for something like a mavic mini or similar. I'm not too familiar with those as I build my own. You can actually diy drone build and get all the features you want except follow me mode...
