Last time I checked my watch it still said America lol we have a saying: "I'll register my drone when you pry it from my cold dead hand"!!!
Seriously though no one from the faa is enforcing the registration, I think is one of those things where they can add extra charges if you do something really stupid with your drone.
Just use common sense and don't get into the path of helicopters or airplanes and you should be fine.
Here's the thing though. We fly our drones for the sheer joy of flying. I flew a couple times before I got my licence and although I wasn't too worried, I was always looking over my shoulder. Took all the fun out of it. For the minimal time and effort it takes, may as well just get a licence.
Yes in the U.S. it's very easy just go to the faa website, pay 5 dollars, print out your license right then and there. I think your also supposed to put your numbers on your drone too.
It's a little more in-depth and costly here in Canada. First you have to take a 35 question exam to get your licence, which is $10. Then it's a $5 registration fee per drone.
I am in Nova Scotia and only know what I've read on the Gov't of Canada website which is as clear as mud. Any details would be helpful. Thanks. I like DugDogs reply about prying it out of his hands.
Back in the 1950's through the 1980's, CB RADIO was the rage. Everyone needed a FCC CB Radio License. We paid our $5.00 and got a license for 5 years. About the 1990's cell phones made their appearance and CB Radio became a novelty not a need. The CB License was no longer required mostly because the government couldn't (or wouldn't) enforce the law. Eventually, the government will learn that the registration of model aircraft and drones and the enforcement of the law will be impossible and more costly than its worth. Registration is a formality so the government can squeeze a bit more money out of you for no other purpose than that!
ahh the cb radio, had a few of them. I think I'm just going to take a wait and see type of thing. Thanks for all the input. I will take a look at the links posted above.
I still have several CB Radios that still work. My FCC License is still viable even though I don't need one anymore. My handle is Night Stalker. I was in a CB Radio Civilian Patrol for 20 years. Once in a while I'll take out my portable CB Radio and listen to the "chatter" on Channel 19 (the Trucker's Channel). And, actually, a CB Radio in your car when on a trip is a good thing to have on because you can monitor the truckers (that still use them) for traffic reports. That's better than even a iPhone for road news.
Basically for reasons Reno said and fact that it's dead simple and cheap enough I did it in the US here but agree most of this stuff isn't enforceable and no one really cares unless you do something dumb (and/or unlucky) then an extra thing to slap you on the wrist about and use in negotiations. Same goes for current restriction to certain airfields in US until they implement LAANC the number of spots you can fly are insanely limited I need to go 7 miles towards OHare airport to get to the closest one to me it's pretty stupid.
You could oil the bearings like shown in the vid here:
honestly I don't think it's worth it though for most of us the motor bell gets destroyed or a magnet gets knocked loose or we decide to try a new set of motors before oiling them would have a major impact. That said if you want them to last longer I don't think it would hurt.
