This is my first predominantly carbon fiber quad. It is the Predator 650 with some mods. After many years (not kidding) of flying home built multi's, I wanted an up to date quad with a gimbal.
The Predator 650 landing gear to me seemed to flimsy. I added 8mm 3k tubing and attached with hot glue... not my immediate choice. I used my heat shrink gun to smooth out the final product.
I used more 8mm 3k carbon fiber tube to extend the existing battery mount 10mm 3k tubes. I wrapped the 8mm with electrical tape to make up the internal difference, then anchored the extended tube in place with heat shrink. I used the battery tray, flipped it upside down, and mounted the 5.8ghz 600mw transmitter aft. The antenna is LHCP cloverleaf. (ibcrazy was crazy not to patent that antenna imo)
I used the last of the 8mm 3k carbon fiber tube, zip tied it down the upper strut, and mounted the Talon gimbal. The height difference was perfect. I also mounted the flight camera. That is a heavy machinery .005" shim primed, painted, bent, drilled, zip tied, and hot glued. (LOL) For the life of me, I could not find what suited my needs. Dang I need to talk the wife into a 3d printer!
This old girl is on the heavy side imo. 2,450 grams full bore all up flight weight.
Running gear is 24-30 800kv's 30a ESC's spinning Graupner 11 x 5 's fully balanced, 6,200mah 10c battery that flies sitting at 14.3 volts for EVER! Probably 35% to 40% of my 15+ minutes these batteries sit at 14.3 volts. I was totally amazed. All Naza if you hadn't noticed.
I was on the fence between Naza and Vector. I had Eagle tree before the Vector. Liked it, wanted something new. DJI advertising caught my eye better I guess...
First post here, lemme know what you think. Comment if you have any questions please.
