This may not look like it but what you see is possibly the future of quadcopters.
Modular.
Consider the push towards all in one boards. How far away is a plug and play brain box you just plug in arms with mounted motors to? One generic box could be the foundation for quads from 180mm mini's to 550mm camera platforms. The difference between a camera ship and a racer could just be the size of the arms and speed of the motors. One box to fly them all. Fc, PDB, ESC, VTX, OSD and receiver with micro connectors for circuit embedded arms.
Plug and play. Some day you could have a case with a kit that has a single box and a host of motor mounted arms in different sizes depending on the particular application you want it for at any given moment. Repairs would take minutes. Conversion to another application, minutes. No more soldering, no more creating wiring harnesses, no more programming, no more spending more time at the work bench than flying.
I will have to say i would feel cheated. My mad soldering skills would be for not.
